POLITICAL ART WORK
1940'S BROWN COLOR
LEONIDAS WATCH CO. WAS FOUNDED IN 1841 AT ST. IMIER BY JULIEN BOURQUIN. LEONIDAS SPECIALIZED IN HIGH QUALITY COMPLICATED WATCHES INCLUDING MOON PHASE, TRIPLE CALENDAR, CHRONOGRAPHS AND EXCEPTIONAL MILITARY WATCHES; WHICH INCLUDED WRIST & POCKET WATCHES, ARTILLERY-BOMBER TIMERS AND AIRPLANE DASH WATCHES.
LEONIDAS WAS A MAIN SUPPLIER FOR THE GERMAN MILITARY.
WRIST WATCHES WITH EMBLEMS ENGRAVINGS AND TRENCH ART WERE COMMON AND STANDARD FARE.
LEONIDAS MADE THE 1940' AEREONAUTICA LEONIDAS DASH PANEL WATCH FOR MOUNTING ON GERMAN AIRPLANE DASH PANELS.
THE GERMAN NAVY (Kriegsmarine) UTILIZED LEONIDAS ARTILLERY TIMERS.
MANY OF THE LEONIDAS WATCHES MADE FOR THE GERMANS WERE MADE IN THE 1930'.
WITH THE OUT BREAK OF WAR, THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT, SEEKING QUALITY WATCHES, INVESTED IN LEONIDAS POCKET WATCHES. THEY WERE MAINLY UTILIZED AS "DECK WATCHES"
IT TOOK TWO LEONIDAS WATCHES TO MAKE ONE.

MOST WATCHES WERE 28-39 MM
THERE WERE SOME 30 MM
THIS ONE IS
31 X 39
THE FINISH ON THIS CASE WAS A NONE GLARE MILITARY STYLE FINISH
MORE ON THE LINES OF * PARKERIZING
IT WAS NOT CHROME PLATED
WITH CHROME PLATING WE REMOVE THE WORN CHROME
THEN REFINISH IN NICKEL
ON THIS CASE WE JUST PERFORMED A COPPER WIRE WHEEL BRUSH
IT CAME OUT VERY NICE
*WE HAVE OFFERED WATCHES DATING AS FAR BACK AS WWI AND THE 1920/30'S THAT WERE FINISHED IN THE SAME LOOK AS PARKERIZING. EARLY US MILITARY "ORD" CASES COME TO MIND. WHILE MOST MODERN PARKERIZING IS PERFORMED ON STEEL FIREARMS, THE PROCESS OF AND TITLE "PARKERIZING" IS ONLY UTILIZED HEREIN TO DESCRIBE THE TYPE OF FINISH RATHER THAN THE ACTUAL WAY IT WAS ACCOMPLISHED. AFTER A COPPER WHEEL AT 4000 RPM AND SERIOUS DETAILING, ONE CAN SEE THAT THE SURFACE STILL LOOKS "PORUS" THOUGH IT IS NOT ACTUALLY POROUS.
Parkerizing, bonderizing, phosphating, or phosphatizing is a method of protecting a steel surface from corrosion and increasing its resistance to wear through the application of an electrochemical phosphate conversion coating. Parkerizing is usually considered to be an improved zinc or manganese phosphating process, and not to be an improved iron phosphating process, although some use the term parkerizing as a generic term for applying phosphating (or phosphatizing) coatings that does include the iron phosphating process.
NOTE: THIS CASE IT WILL AGE NICELY

so called Wehrmachtswerk (army movement) option: Reed's regulator, different bridge shapes, sometimes separate escape wheel cock, differently beveled bridge and plate edges, later samples with ring balance and/or mobile stud carrier, but even very late still without shock device.
