A FEW PAST LANCETS RESTORED BY GSW
NOTE: THERE ARE SIX (6) NOT FIVE (5)

The last time American Forces had been in a war that rivaled WWI and its weapons of destruction had been 62 year previous in the Civil War. The Civil War   had revolutionary innovations of death in new weapons and tactics, including rifled barrels, new canon, canon shells, and then there was the horror of a mid 19c war wounds and prison camps.

Yet, any attempt to compare WWI, with its weapons, casualties, chemical warfare and numbers, with the Civil War, would, in the end,  be far fetched.

In the fall of 1917, American troops faced a battle field that surpassed those of the Civil War. Pouring into France, American soldiers discovered a war fought in the trenches of France. Trench life was a dismal life of mud, parasites, poor food and a constant artillery barrage that survivors carried in their minds for a lifetime.

Many of the Veterans who fought in France returned to the States with war booty. This Lancet is an item that was  part of that booty. Though old Lancet watches were sold and utilized through out the world, they were a favorite of French soldiers. Lancet watches can be found with different cases and movements. The case and movement will determine the origin.

THIS LANCET TRENCH WATCH WITH HAS A GERMAN MOVEMENT AND CASE AND IS SIGNED "SCHNEIDER & SCHULER SWISS" AND DATES FROM 1915 TO 1917. WE BELIEVE IT IS EITHER  FRENCH OR GERMAN.
