The West End Watch Company began there journey in 1886 from "The West End", a district of the center of London.
The market that West End catered to was the British controlled Mid-East and India. By 1914, West End was offering solid, well
made and cased Trench and Pocket Watches. Specializing in the Indian Military and Civil Services, West End, with acceptance of the British
Military, produced Trench Watches that were marked C.S.for the Civil Service in India and C-tailed broadarrow-S for Indian Military personal under British control.

STRAIGHT NICKEL
OR
SILVER PLATED NICKEL
LET ME KNOW
ROCK

A NEW GLASS CRYSTAL
FITTED PERFECT
KEEPS THIS
WEST END
CLOSE TO ORIGINAL

NOTE
THE
DEEP & WIDE
ANGLED
INNER REFLECTION RING
IT WAS A FIRST

ALSO NOTICE HOW DEEP THE CASE IS
WITH THE BEZEL BEING 50% OF CASE

TOP BEZEL IS AS DEEP AS MAIN CASE WITH CASE BACK
VERY UNUSUAL BUT IT WAS A DESIGN THAT YOU SEE TODAY IN
NEWER (1930-50) VINTAGE WEST END POCKETS AND TRENCHES

IMG_3769.JPG (95740 bytes)

IN FACT
IF YOU LOOK AT THE
5 YEARS OF TRENCH WATCHES
ROCK HAS RESTORED
THEN LOOK ONLINE

YOU WILL DISCOVER THAT
WEST END
CREATED MORE THAN THE
FIRST WATER PROOF POCKET WATCH

THIS 9.7 MM
DEEP /  HIGH
CASE
SPORTS A FEW FIRSTS

A) UNIQUE INNER REFLECTION RING PROVIDED LIGHT REFLECTION MAKING TIME READING EASIER. BUT, THERE IS ANOTHER POSITIVE --
WHETHER IT WAS AN INTENTIONAL DESIGN OR NOT-- THE HEIGHT ACTUALLY CONTAINS THE ILLUMINATION. MOST RADUM DIALS
WERE CLOSE TO THE CRYSTAL. AT NIGHT ONE COULD SEE THE GLOW FROM A DISTANCE. DUE TO THE HEIGHT AND BUILT IN REFLECTION
RING,IT IS HARDER TO SEE THE ILLUMINATION FROM A SIDE VIEW, UNLESS IT IS ANGLED TO YOU.

B) SOLID GLASS CRYSTAL LEDGE VERSES THE SNAP IN BEZEL PROVIDED THE MEANS TO WATER PROOF THE CRYSTAL

C) CONTRARY TO ONE'S FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE DIAL -- THINKING IT WAS SOLY A DESIGN-- THE TWO TONE DIAL WAS
PLACED WITH AN INTENT OF UTILITY.   THE BLACK RING MADE THE ILLUMINATION STAND OUT AT DUSK AND THE WHITE NUMERALS
EASY TO READ IN THE DAY. THE GOLD SEPERATED THE NUMERAL CHAPTER AND ALLOWED THE SUB-SECONDS REGISTER TO STAND OUT- MAKING IT  EASIER TO READ,

IMG_3791.JPG (104585 bytes)

THOUGH HE CAN NICKEL PLATE THESE CASES, ROCK WANTED TO KEEP THIS BEAUTY AS CLOSE TO ORIGINAL AS POSSIBLE.
AS TRENCH WATCHES GO, THIS IS A RARE WEST END. COPIES OF THIS CASE BY WEST END WOULD CONTINUE
TO BE MADE WITH SOME CHANGES AS THE DECADES PROGRESSED. DIFFERENT DIALS, DIFFERENT MOVEMENTS, DIFFERENT FINISHES, BUT THE SAME CASE.

HISTORICAL WATCH

IMG_3763.JPG (154462 bytes)

ANOTHER SHOT OF THE DIAL
THIS PICTURES DEMONSTRATES HOW
NICE THESE RADIUM DIALS LOOKED
WHEN THEY WERE NEW
AND
AS STATED ABOVE
THE REFLECTION RING REFLECTED
THE ILLUMINATION WHILE CONTAINING IT

I KNOW YOU HAVE SEEN
OLD POCKET WATCHES
WITH
DIALS LIKE THE ONE ABOVE
BLACK AND GOLD
WITH
RAISED ILLUMINATED NUMERALS

USUALLY THEY WERE PIN LEVER
AND ARE FOUND PRETTY MUCH WORN OUT

THE KEY TO THIS WATCH IS THE SIGNED C ARROW S ON THE CASE BACK, WITH "EYES" YOU CAN JUST READ THE WORN CASE BACK.

WITH A LOUPE YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE A NEAT PERFECT STAMPED  "BROADARROW" WITH TAIL" --THE SAME YOU SEE ON MANY INDIAN MADE MILITARY WATCHES-- AND A "C" [ARROW] "S" .

PROOF THAT THIS TRENCH WAS UTILIZED IN "MILITARY CIVIL SERVICE"  UNDER THE BRITISH CROWN.
