YUP, A SERVED IN THE NAM GENUINE FIRST EVER WATCH MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR VIETNAM. BUT IT WAS THE LAST THAT WAS TOP LINE.   THIS IS IN FACT A 3818B...THE DTU-2A/P CAME OUT AFTER THIS SPECIAL 10,000 PIECES. IN FACT THE DTU XXX IS ON CASE BACK BUT IT TRULY WAS NOT A DTU 2A/P. THOSE HAD MOVEMENTS WITH NO SPECS. JUST HAD TO LAST TWO YEARS WITH NO REPAIR OR MAINTENANCE! THIS ONE WAS THE RESULT OF A BATTLE BETWEEN BENRUS AND BULOVA. BULOVA LOST AND NEVER NEVER MADE WATCHES FOR THE NAM! AND THIS WAS THE LAST LIKE IT-- THOUGH THE GOV/MIL DECIDED ALL THOSE WATCHES FOR NAM WOULD BE SINGLE CASES...    I HAVE PROVIDED LINKS TO ALL THE DOCUMENTATION BELOW!

DTU_2A_NOT_P.jpg (133406 bytes)

ALSO, THERE WAS NO BENRUS 1 AND II DIVE WATCHES IN THE NAM, THERE WERE NON! THE ONLY DIVES WERE THOSE PURCHASED IN PX/BX R&R MADE BY BENRUS. LOOK FORWARD TO MY EXPOSE ON THE BENRUS TYPE II AUTOMATICS... WHAT A CROCK!

BTW: HAD TO GO TO VA WHEN MY BLOOD ORESSURE WENT TO 180 OVER ?????

YUP. JUST HAD HEADACHES FOR 2 MONTHS AND OTHER THINGS HAPPENING. THEY IMMEDIATLY TOOK CARE OF ME.. AWESOME THE VA IS!!!

YUP... THIS WATCH SERVED IN THE NAM AND WHILE WE WANT TO RESTORE IT WE ALSO DO NOT WANT TO MAKE LIKE NEW

IMG_2466.jpg (44636 bytes)

LETS FACE IT THE CASE CAME OUT TREMENDOUS! THESE CASES ARE STEEL AND TO REDUCE GLARE A PARKERING TECHNIQUE IS UTILIZED THIS ONE HAD SCRATCHES AND AREAS THAT THE FINISH HAD  WORN OUT. USING A TECHIQUE THAT INCLUDES BEADING THEN APPLIYING A PHOSPAHATE CONCOCTION I GOT HER JUST ABOUT RIGHT

THE WORK IMAGES OF REPAIRING HACK LEVER

clutch.jpg (54868 bytes)

THE PIN THAT STOPS BALANCE BY PULLING CROWN IS IN THE MOVEMENT. PULLING CROWN CAUSE CLUTCH  TO MOVE INTO THE WHEEL THAT CONNECTS TO MINUTE WHEEL ALLOWING YOU TO TURN CROWN AND SET TIME.

USING THIS FUNCTION TO ADD A HACKING FUNCTION WAS BRILLIANT. WHEN YOU PULL CROWN AN ADDED TWO PIECE SPRING LOADED HACKING LEVER COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE CLUTCH WHICH NOT ONLY CONNECTS TO THE WHEEL DRIVING THE MINUTE WHEEL - ALLOWING FOR THE SETTING OF TIME -- BUT ALSO MOVES SECTION ONE OF THE HACK LEVER THAT THEN MOVE THE SECOND STAGE THAT HOLDS THE HACKING PIN!

THAT LEVER MOVES THE PIN TO THE BALANCE WHEEL STOPPING IT. WHEN YOU PUSH CROWN BACK IN THE CLUTCH MOVES BACK TOWARDS THE CROWN AND ENGAGES THE WATCH TO BE WOUND.

IF THE PIN IS BENT TOO FAR IT COULD BREAK THE BALANCE STAFF OR CAUSE DAMAGE OVER TIME. THIS PARTICULAR ITEM WAS REPAIRED AFTER EVERY OTHER ITEM OF RESTORATION OF THE MOVEMENT WAS ACCOMPLISHED.

THE PIN YOU SEE WAS BENT AND POSITIONED TOO FAR RIGHT -CAUSING IT NOT TO FUNCTION PROPERLY.

IT TOOK SEVERAL HOURS TO REMOVE BALANCE AND STRIP THE CENTER BRIDGE RE POSITION PIN W/O BREAKING, PLACE THE BALANCE BACK IN , PLACE BRIDGE AFTER ALIGNING ALL THE WHEELS AND STAFFS AND TEST, THEN DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN 7 TIMES.
