Paul Wyler presented his first 16 and 19-line precision movements to the public in 1927. The particularity of these was the ICAFLEX balance wheel, which was legendary at the time.

The Wyler Incaflex balance wheel is protected along its diameter by two curved, elastic arms, which absorb any shocks to the balance wheel.

In addition to producing his own calibres, Wyler also modified movements of other large-scale producers and sold these on to other watch companies. In some cases, the basic calibre was changed so much that the movements should actually be considered as Wyler calibres.

In 1937 the WYLER INTRODUCED THE WATER-RESISTANT      watch that was not fitted with the conventional soft gaskets.

The crystal was pressed in between the edge of the case and a pressed or screwed bezel, the gap between the winding shaft and the watch case was sealed hydraulically by fitting the winding shaft and bushing together, in the same material, to 1/500mm.

AS FOR PATS MISSING OR REQUIRING REPLACEMENTT

A) IT WAS MISSING THE CROWN.
B) THE CRYSTAL WAS CRAZED.
C) THE BEZEL WAS GLUED
D) THERE WAS NO DIAL RING

--ANYONE RESTORING A WYLER KNOWS WITHOUT THE RING YOU SIMLY CANNOT LOCK MOVEMENT.

E) THE MOVEMENT ROTOR WAS HACKED
D) THE WYLER INCAFLEX BALANCE WAS REPLACED WITH AN ETA STANDARD BALANCE.

ABOVE PIC DEMONSTRATION

INCABLOC SHOCK SYSTEM

Invented in 1934 by Swiss engineers, the TRADE NAMED Incabloc is a spring-loaded mounting shock protection system created to protect the pivots of balance staffs and the jewel bearings that support the balance wheel in the event of a drop or severe shock to a watch. The incabloc protects the pivots of the balance staff. The balance staff is the metal "pin" or "shaft" that fits through the wheel.  Pivots are the ends of that balance "staff" that the balance wheel is mounted on. . The pivots are created by  machining and polishing the ends of the balance staff.

A-INCABLOC-SHOCK-DEVICE.jpg (65191 bytes)

The Pivots created are made extremely thin to fit into jeweled "ruby" bearings [synthetic sapphire]. The jewels work to extend the life of the pivots by both but reducing the wear of metal against metal, and by retaining lubrication longer.

Before the Incabloc [there are other similar devices created after the incabloc], if a watch was dropped or experienced shock the pivots would break. Breakage was reduced by 75% by the incabloc..

Upon shock/impact, the Incabloc system uses a "lyre-shaped"[above] spring to allow the bearings to shift upwards and/or **downwards in their settings until the stronger staff shoulder contacts the endpiece.
This system insures that the pivots and bearings do have to bear the blunt force of the impact and break.

The incabloc system --and others-- insure that after impact  the springs will guide the parts back to their original positions.

THE WYLER INCAFLEX BALANCE

AAA-WYLER.jpg (21633 bytes)

The only problem with the incabloc system [and other devices] is that it was designed to mainly protect against up and down shock in relationship to watch face or back being the area of impact and up to a certain deviation. But, when a watch falls on it's case side, the weight and G Force can cause one or both pivots to break. The standard balance with rigid single, triple or quad arms that connect the balance wheel center to the outer wheel become a strong force when dropped side ways. In the diagrams of the INCAFLEX it shows side protection. In reality, protection from this shock is not as insured as up and down.

aaaa-ad.jpg (37143 bytes)

Wyler watch company, just as they invented the single case system, the two part stem, the true water proof crystal system, invented the INCAFLEX. IN THE THREE PICTURES OF THE BALANCES ABOVE, THE FIRST IS THE INCAFLEX. The INCAFLEX does two things; protects the pivots from the watch dropping side ways, and provides shock protection at any angle by allowing the balance to flex, thereby reducing damage from the rigid balance pushing against staff and pivots. When utilized with the incabloc, or one of the many other systems, the Wyler system out performs them all.

**some movemenyts have the incabloc on top and bottom. some just on top.

WELL, ROCK HAD SUCH  HARD TIME LOCATING THE SCREW CROWN , DIAL RING AND CRYSTAL, HE SENT THE CASE TO JULES BOREL TO NO AVAIL.. THEN TO OTTO FREI WHEN HE THEN LEARNED JULES BOREL HAD ALSO SENT IT TO OTTO FREI!

ON THE PAPER WORK OTTO FREI SAID " WE ALREADY TRIED TO FIT OR FIND THEM". ROCK WAS SIMPLY AT A LOSS, IT WAS NOT THE MONEY! IT WAS THE FACT HE CANNOT LET GO: HE DID NOT WANT THIS BEAUTY TO BE CONSINED TO THE "PARTS" CASE; TO BE STRIPPED FOR OTHER WYLERS
