FACT CHECK

BEFORE, DURING,  IN WWII, US,, GERMAN, JAPANESE, BRITISH GOV
MILITARY ISSUED WATCHES DID NOT HAVE THE ALLEGED

" WIDE AIRFORCE FLIER BUND DIVER"

WATCH STRAPS THAT ARE DISPLAYED AS WWII  TODAY
THOUGH THE JAPANESE DID HAVE THE COOLEST WIDE LEATHER
STRAPS MATCHED TO SEIKOSHA WATCHES THEY WERE EXTREMELY THIN IN COMPARISON.

YES THE GERMAN, AMERICAN, JAPANESE AND BRITISH FORCES DID POSSESS
A FEW LARGE MODELS THAT HAD WIDER STRAPS. BUT THESE WERE AND ARE RARE.

SO, STRAPS THE ABSOLUTE MAJORITY OF WATCHES WERE NO LARGER  THAN 30MM W/16MM STRAPS.
GERMAN, AMERICAN AND BRITISH MILITARY WATCHES WERE 26 TO 30 MM. JAPANESE 22 TO 30 MM.
IN FACT THE US GOV ISSUE A-11 PILOTS HACKING WATCHES AVERAGED 28 TO 29MM, WITH SOME ELGIN
REACHING 30MM DUE TO THE TINED SCREW OFF CASE BEZEL AND BACK. . THEY ALL HAD 16MM STRAPS.
THOSE RARE MODELS THAT EXCEEDED THESE FIGURES WERE OFTEN 32 MM.
85% OF ALL WATCHES WERE PURCHASED BY SOLDIERS DIRECTLY FROM BRANDS.

THUS THE WIDE BANDS WE OFFER AND CAN BE FOUND WERE MADE BY SOLDIERS AND AIRMEN.
SOME MADE IN HOUSE AS IN HOME MADE - SOME MADE IN A  MACHINE SHOP OR FARMED OUT TO.
CRAFTERS IN THE US OR OVERSEAS. MANY WERE HARNESS MAKERS AND THOSE WHO SPECIALIZED IN LEATHER
BELTS SADDLES AND OTHER FARM NEEDS. THUS PLACING THIS MOERIS ON A GENUINE LEATHER STRAP
FROM 1944 WHICH WAS  SIGNED WITH A RHINO DIVISION BADGE OF THE 1ST ID.
SIMPLY MAKES THE OFFER ONE OF A VERY FEW WE OFFER THAT IS 100% WWII.
COMPLETE WITH TRENCH ART.  A GENUINE WWII STRAP WITH BRASS SNAPS AND WIDE BUCKLE.
YOU WILL NOTICE IT WAS NEVER PERFECT. THUS THAT FACTOR AND THE
GERMAN POUCH BUCKLE INSURE ITS HISTORY WILL CONTINUE FOR ANOTHER 70 YEARS AND MORE..

BEFORE RESTORATION

Moeris_000.jpg (23403 bytes)

1893: Fritz Moeri founded the predecessor company Moeri & Jeanneret with "Moeri's Patent", a non-magnetic lever movement with exchangeable parts (Swiss Patent Nr. 7547). 1909: Swiss Patent Nr. 47453 for "Fritz Moeri, successor of Moeri & Jeanneret" for a small stop watch integrated in a binocular. from 1910: Main activities stop watches and chronographs.1956: Remarkable, movement manufacturing for Seiko and Citizen.ca. 1970: Acquired by Tissot becoming the "Moeris Department" within Tissot.

INCABLOC ON BALANCE

NO INCABLOC

FXY ON BALANCE COCK

NO IMPORT CODE

WITH ONLY A FEW ALTERATIONS, MOERIS OFFERED A HEAVY DUTY, FINELY
DESIGNED, MOERIS 15J 10.5 MOVEMENT AS THE BASE MOVEMENT IN THEIR
BEST WATCHES FROM 1938 THROUGH TO 1956. THE FIRST MOERIS 15J CALIBER
10.5 WATCHES WERE  PLACED IN WIRE LUGGED SNAP BACK CASES WITH BLACK
RADIUM DIAL AND SHIPPED TO GERMANY.

IMG_0792.JPG (105905 bytes)

IN 1939, MOERIS UTILIZED THE SAME 15J CAL 10.5 TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS
OF THE BRITISH WAR DEPARTMENT. THE RESULT WAS 15 JEWEL10.5 CASED
IN A WATER PROOF SCREW BACK CASE WITH WHITE RADIUM DIAL. THIS VERSION
CAN BE FOUND SIGNED BY THE BRITISH AS "ATP".

IMG_0791.JPG (107975 bytes)

THEN GERMAN SUPPLIERS TO THE GERMAN MILITARY ORDERED THE SAME
MOERIS WITH BLACK RADIUM DIALS IN CASES WITH STEEL SCREW DOWN
CASE BACKS. THESE CAN BE FOUND WITH D [serial]  H  ON THE CASE BACK--
THOUGH AT THE MIDDLE OF 1944 TO TO THE END OF THE WAR,
THE GERMANS RECEIVED ADDITIONAL WATCHES THAT WERE NEVER
STAMPED DH AND SOME WERE HALF THE QUALITY OF THOSE PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED.

IMG_0789.JPG (111014 bytes)

WHEN THE USA JUMPED INTO THE WAR, THEY HAD COMPLETELY A DIFFERENT
WAY OF BUYING WATCHES FOR THE MILITARY.  THE US GOVERNMENT DESIGNED
THE WATCH,  THEN MANUFACTURERS IN THE STATES --OR WITH
A LARGE PART OF OPERATIONS IN THE STATES-- FOUGHT FOR THE
CONTRACTS. PRODUCING EXACTLY WHAT WAS ORDERED.

IMG_0788.JPG (93533 bytes)

MANY GREAT COMPANIES COULD NOT STOP PRODUCTION OF WATCHES THEY
DESIGNED AND WERE SELLING OVER SEAS. BUT WITH MILLIONS OF MEN AND
WOMAN BEING RECRUITED FOR THE MILITARY, AND MILLIONS MORE MOVING
INTO THE BURGEONING WAR PRODUCTION, THE MARKET WAS SIMPLY TOO
LARGE TO IGNORE. MEN AND WOMAN WHO WOULD HAVE NEVER INVESTED
IN A WATCH, NEEDED THEM NOW.

 IMG_0785.JPG (117564 bytes)

SO MOERIS, DESIRING PART OF THE GROWING PIE, FIRST APPLIED FOR A NEW
IMPORT CODE. THIS CODE APPEARED ON THE CAL 10.5 DESIGNATED FOR THE USA.

IMG_1646.JPG (33514 bytes)

[NOTE:  WHEN THE BLOCKADES WENT UP, THE GERMANS BEAT THEM
BY BUYING MANY WATCHES WITH US IMPORT CODES, BUT THAT IS ALSO FOR ANOTHER TIME. ]

FXY

THE IMPORT CODE WAS STAMPED ON THE MOVEMENT.
THE REASON WAS IMPORT DUTIES. THE STAMP ALLOWED
FASTER IMPORTS --AND OTHER REASONS TOO LONG TO WRITE HERE..

IMG_0769.JPG (118670 bytes)

SO, MOERIS, KNOWING THAT STANDARDS WERE HIGHER IN THE US, STARTED
WITH THE  CAL 10.5 WITH 15 JEWELS AND ADDED THE INCABLOC SHOCK ABSORBER SYSTEM.

IMG_0768.jpg (192238 bytes)

MOERIS THEN PLACED THESE IMPROVED 10.5 MOVEMENTS IN CASES WITH ADDITIONAL
INFORMATION ON THE CASE BACK --LATER ON THEY ADDED TWO MORE JEWELS-
-BUT THAT ALSO IS STORY FOR ANOTHER TIME.

IMG_0767.JPG (170446 bytes)

THESE WOULD ALSO WORKED THEIR WAY INTO BOTH BRITISH AND GERMAN
WATCHES. BUT THE FACT REMAINED, IT WAS THE US MARKET THAT
CAUSE THE 10.5 TO SPROUT THE INCABLOC.
