BATTLE OF NORMANDY

NAVY/MARINES

Navy Corpsman are highly skilled  and are widely considered some of the best front line medics in the US military service.

During World War I, hospital corpsmen served throughout the fleet, earning particular distinction on the Western Front with the Marine Corps. A total of 684 personal awards were awarded to hospital corpsmen in the war, including 2 Medals of Honor, 55 Navy Crosses, and 237 Silver Stars.

In World War II, hospital corpsmen hit the beach with Marines in every battle in the Pacific. Joe Rosenthal's iconic photo of the flag-raising on Iwo Jima, captured during that battle's early days, depicts Pharmacist's Mate Second Class John Bradley among the group of Marines on Mt. Suribachi that day.

They also served on thousands of ships and submarines. Notably, three unassisted emergency appendectomies were performed by hospital corpsmen serving undersea and beyond hope of medical evacuation.

The Hospital Corps has the distinction of being the only corps in the U.S. Navy to be singled out in a famous speech by Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal after the conclusion of the war.

Hospital Corpsmen can further specialize, Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman, or SARC. They are usually found in both the FMF Recon and Marine Division Recon and MARSOC units. They are trained and skilled in combat, including combatant swimming, opened/closed circuit scuba diving, military free-fall and amphibious operations.

ARMY

Combat medics (also known simply as medics) are trained military personnel who are responsible for providing first aid and front line trauma care on the battlefield. They are also responsible for providing continuing medical care in the absence of a readily available physician, including care for disease and battle injury. Combat medics are normally co-located with the combat troops they serve.

USAF medics have frequently served attached to US Army units in recent conflicts. Though all combat medical personnel are universally referred to as "medic", within different branches of the US military, the skill level, quality of training and scope of work performed by medics varies from branch to branch. Army medics are mainly first aid and initial combat care; their mission is to get a wounded soldier treated enough to survive transportation away from a combat area and to a proper medical facility as quickly as possible.

VIETNAM

Thomas Bennett was a conscientious objector who received the medal for his actions as a medic. The first medal of the war was presented to Roger Donlon for rescuing and administering first aid to several wounded soldiers and leading a group against an enemy force.

HELBROS WWII HISTORY
helbros2.jpg (45398 bytes)

In 1913, when only the relatively well-to-do could afford a timepiece, Helbros was created by the Helbein Brothers. The middle class Swiss German watchmakers goal was to manufacture quality timepieces affordable to the working public. Throughout the 20's and 30's, Helbros became a household name and by the 40's and WWII,  Helbros was supplying watches to American Forces and a major promoter of the War Bond efforts of the United States.

Quick as a Flash was a 30-minute radio quiz program which featured drama segments with guest actors from radio detective shows.

Created by director Richard Lewis and emcee Ken Roberts, the program debuted over the Mutual Network on Sunday, July 16, 1944. Sponsored by the Helbros Watch Company, the show was produced by Lewis and Bernard J. Prockter with scripts by Gene Wang. Music was by Ray Bloch and the Helbros Orchestra.Six contestants from the studio audience competed for cash and other prizes. Clues were presented in the form of dramatic sketches covering such subjects as current events, movies, books and historical situations. With a buzzer, a contestant could interrupt at any time to submit an answer.

The National Defense Service Medal With Star
A military service medal of the United States military originally commissioned by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Created in 1953, the National Defense Service Medal was intended to be a "blanket campaign medal" awarded to any member of the United States military who served honorably during a designated time period of which a "national emergency" had been declared.Multiple awards of the National Defense Service Medal are authorized for members of the military who served in more than one of the eligible time periods; such additional awards are denoted by service stars.

MERITORIOUS COMMENDATION W/STAR
wpeEF.jpg (2392 bytes)

The Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation was established by order of the Secretary of the Navy on July 17, 1967. It is awarded in the name of the Secretary of the Navy to units of both the U.S. Navy and United States Marines. To justify this award, the unit must have performed service of a character comparable to that which would merit the award of a Bronze Star Medal, or achievement of like caliber in a non-combat situation, to an individual.

NOTE:

WE JUST COMPLETED A CUSTOM BOX FOR AN ITALIAN PATRON WITH AN AWESOME [ALSO] ORIGINAL 3 ROW RIBBON BAR WITH KOREA AND VIETNAM SERVICE WITH TWO GOOD CONDUCT RIBBONS WHITH BARS OR OAK LEAVES.. GOOD CONDUCT

\Of all the Good Conduct Medals, the Navy Good Conduct Medal is the oldest, dating back to 1869. There have been a total of four versions of the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the first version of which was issued from 1870 to 1884. The original Navy Good Conduct Medal was also not worn on a uniform, but issued with discharge papers as a badge to present during reenlistment. A sailor in the Navy received a new Good Conduct Medal for each honorable enlistment completed.

Philippine Presidential Unit CitationThe Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation ribbon is authorized for permanent wear only. Personnel assigned to the organization during the period cited may wear the emblem. Only one award is authorized for wear. The Philippine Presidential Unit Citation is a decoration of the Republic of the Philippines which has been awarded to certain units of the United States military for actions both during and subsequent to the Second World War. the decoration was first created in 1946 and retroactively awarded to any unit of the U.S. and Philippine military which had served in the defense or liberation of the Philippine Islands. The decoration was again bestowed to U.S. and Philippine military units for relief efforts during several natural disasters which occurred in the Philippines between 1970 and 1972.
