WATCH CARE 101:

Having your watch serviced overhauled and/or restored by ROCK THROUGH GSW/GSWW/MWB is a fantastic means to increase the value AS WELL AS the wearability of your time piece. GSW/GSWW/MWB provides a one year limited warranty on every restoration, overhaul and/or service and JUST ABOUT every time piece sold UNLESS stated otherwise.

This warranty covers parts that were replaced or repaired, and all work performed, including timing. A restored watch, or a restore, overhaul or service of your watch does not mean the replacement of all parts that can wear, or are worn. Just about all vintage parts have some wear. We change, replace or repair parts that are severely worn or worn enough to effect the operation of the timepiece. 99.5% of all completed time pieces have operated perfectly for many years after patrons either had their own time pieces repaired/restored, or invested in one of our timepieces. In the event a part we did not replace wears out, our warranty will discount the labor and part price, which is only fair due to the fact we cannot replace every part ina vintage watch. Though in the time from 2005 until today, we have had the blessings to state that we have never had more than 10 time pieces out of 2000 that required this type of warranty where a part required replacement.

There can be events or situations that effect a time piece. there can be failures simply due to the fact that the time piece is vintage. Anything can happen. A wheel, gear or part may break. A replaced part may fail. in other words, we do everything possible to ensure long wear but cannot state that your time piece will operate with no failures for ever!. What we can do is offer a free limited warranty with excellent terms of service to insure our patrons that if something occurs, we will repair it. in most cases we repair freely, in some cases, depending on the time frame and the failure, we offer an inexpensive means to repair. Our reputation for first class restoration and for 1st class warranty repair and/or service has been proven by our track record. We have had only 7 basic warranty returns; 10 warranty returns due to parts outside our ability to forcast, and 7 due to parts we invested in and had to replace; and 6 that were simple adjustments: from 2002 until today! That is over a decade of non stop watch restoration!

1) Recall THAT THE RESTORATION & OPERATING OF THE TRENCH, RARE, SPECIAL. LUXURY & VINTAGE WATCH IS A RARE ACT DUE TO THE VALUE, AGE AND PART ISSUE. SO TREAT YOUR VINTAGE WATCH WITH CARE YOU MUST ALWAYS PROTECT THEM AGAINST WATER & MOISTURE DAMAGE.

1- AFTER WEARING,. BE SURE YOU ALLOW YOUR VINTAGE WATCH TO SIT FACE UP FOR A FEW HOURS IN A DRY LOCATION BEFORE PLACING IT IN YOUR CASE FOR LONG OR SHORT STORAGE DURATION.

2- WITH TRENCH, PENDANT AND/OR POCKET WATCHES WITH HINGED CASES THIS IS OF GREATER IMPORTANCE

3- WATER RESISTANCE NEVER "WATER PROOF"

.4  DO NOT SWIM OR TAKE SHOWER WITH YOUR WATCH ON UNLESS IT HAS A SCREW DOWN CROWN AND HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR THIS

5  MANY DIVE WATCHES HAVE NON-SCREW DOWN CROWNS. REPLACING SEALS DOES NOT NECESSARILY MAKE UP FOR CASE AND STEM TUBE WEAR. NOT ALL STEM TUBES ARE AVAILABLE FOR VINTAGE WATCHES.

       6) *DO NOT WEAR YOUR VINTAGE WATCH WHILE RIDING MOTORCYCLES , 4 WHEELERS, OR ANY SITUATION YOUR WONDERFUL TIME PIECE WILL DISCOVER ITSELF INVOLVED IN STRONG VIBRATION OR MAGNETIC FIELDS. SOME VINTAGE WATCHES, SUCH AS SEIKO DIVES AND OTHERS, CAN BE WORN IN THESE SITUATIONS, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED. .

9- MANY VINTAGE , EVEN MORE SO, TRENCH WATCHES, HAVE A UNIQUE CENTER HAND PINION THAT THE MINUTE HANDS IS PRESSED OVER. ONLY PERIOD ORIGINAL MINUTE HANDS FIT THESE PINIONS.---- THOUGH IT HARDLY EVER OCCURS----, AND IS SIMPLE TO FIX,--- IF THE MINUTE HAND, OR ANY HAND, EVER COMES LOOSE, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PLACE IT BACK ON. PLEASE SEND IT TO GSW FOR FREE WARRANTY REPAIR____I WOULD RATHER FIX FOR FREE THAN HAVE TO CHARGE YOU FOR REPAIR!!!

12- GRASP CROWN BETWEEN THUMB AND FOREFINGER NAILS ----- LEVER IT OUT IN ONE MOTION..THE CROWN WILL TURN IN BOTH DIRECTIONS YET WILL ONLY WIND ONE. BY TWISTING THE WATCHES CROWN WITH THE THUMB AND FOREFINGER IN A CLOCKWISE FASHION.YOU WIND YOUR WATCHES MAINSPRING.

13- ALWAYS GENTLY WIND YOUR WATCH SLOWLY AND NEVER PAST THE POINT YOU FEEL RESISTANCE. WHEN EVER POSSIBLE SET TIME IN CLOCK-WISE MOTION ONLY. TRY NOT TO SET VINTAGE WATCHES COUNTER (REVERSE) CLOCKWISE UNLESS IT IS FOR SETTING DATE .

14- LEARN YOUR WATCH. OVER TIME YOU WILL KNOW IT. ROCK WINDS HIS WATCHES TO NEAR MAX AND HE WILL OCCASIONALLY WIND IT WHILE WEARING.

15- IN MANY CASES WE LIST MAIN SPRING RESERVE TIME, THIS INFORMATION IS FOR A NEW MOVEMENT. IT WILL NOT APPLY IN MOST CASES. OLD WATCHES HAVE WEAR. MOST PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND SECONDS MARKET MEANS “UOS” AND NOT “NOS” ( USED VS NEW OLD STOCK).                17) ALWAYS SET ALL VINTAGE TIME PIECES CLOCK WISE.

18- while IT IS FINE TO COUNTER SET YOUR WATCH WHEN YOU BY PASS THE TIME YOU ARE SETTINGBUT CONTINUALLY COUNTER SETTING VINTAGE WATCHES CAN EFFECT THE AGED “WEAR IN” OF THE WHEELS.

                19) CLEANING YOUR TIME PIECE -. REGARDLESS OF THE CONTACT OF THE CASE – NEVER USE CHEMICALS OR POLISHING COMPOUNDS ON YOUR CASE. -SIMPLY USE A SOFT CLOTH OR JEWELRY BUFFING CLOTHS. USE A DAMP SOFT COTTON CLOTH TO CLEAN YOUR VINTAGE WATCH. PAYING EXTRA ATTENTION TO CLEANING THE UNDERSIDE CASE BACK.

               20) MOST TRENCHES & SOME SMALL POCKETS/PENDANTS DO NOT HAVE “LOCK DOWN” HOLDERS, RINGS OR SCREWS TO HOLD MOVEMENT
21-. MOST FIT BY CONTACT THOUGH A THIN METAL PIN THAT FITS UNDER THE LIP OF THE CASE,A LEDGE AROUND THE TOP OF THE MOVEMENT           IT HOLDS                 DOWN BUT WITH FREE PLAY
22- ACROSS FROM THIS PIN, A SCREW TURNS TO CONTACT CASE INTERIOR.
23- THE STEM THEN COMPLETES THIS “LOCK SET” WITH THE CRYSTAL BEZEL ADDING THE LAST CONTAINMENT.
24- BUT THE MOVEMENT IS NEVER “LOCKED TIGHT” AS WE EXPECT WITH STANDARD WRIST AND POCKETS .

26- BE CAREFUL AS TO BENDING METALS BACK AND FORTH . IT CAN UNATTACHED A FOOT. IF THIS EVER OCCURS, IN WARRANTY OR NOT, PLEASE SEND TO GSW FOR REPAIR.
27- WHEN REMOVING OVER-FOOT HOLDERS, LIGHTLY PULL THE FEET UP AND OUT JUST ENOUGH TO FREE THE CASE.
28- EXPECT LIGHT MARKS ON SILVER AND GOLD CASE BACKS WHEN USING GUARDS.
29- SHOULD A BEZEL, DIVE BEZEL INSERT, GOLD CAP BEZEL, COMPRESSION RING BEZEL (WYLER) OR ANOTHER PART COME OFF, WHILE WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND SENDING IT TO GSW, YOU MAY TRY PLACING BACK ON. BUT PLEASE, NO MATTER WHAT, CALL GSW FIRST. 470 209 5277 .

33- MANUAL SET 2: SET BY TURNING CLOCKWISE FROM 20 (8) TO 24 (12) HOUR. YOU TURN THE HANDS CLOCKWISE UNTIL DATE CHANGES, THEN GO BACK TO 20 HOUR (34) AND THEN CLOCKWISE TO 24 HOUR (12). YOU REPEAT THIS UNTIL DATE IS APPROPRIATE.

35) AUTOMATIC WINDING

36- FULL AUTOMATICS (SEIKO) MUST BE MOVED UP AND DOWN COUNTING AT LEAST 30 TIMES PER DOUBLE MOVEMENT BEFORE WEARING.
37- MOST AUTOMATICS SHOULD BE WOUND AND NOT SHAKEN,MOVED UP /DOWN TO START THEN AUTO FEATURE TAKES OVER.

38)  DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VINTAGE TIME PIECE IN A VEHICLE– EXTREME TEMPERATURES CAN HARM THE WATCH.

39) DO NOT USE CHEMICALS, CLEANERS OR JEWELRY BUFFING CLOTHS. USE A DAMP SOFT COTTON CLOTH TO CLEAN YOUR VINTAGE WATCH. PAYING EXTRA ATTENTION TO CLEANING THE UNDERSIDE CASE BACK ALSO.

44- PLASTIC: THOUGH THIS IS THE LEAST APPRECIATED CRYSTAL, IT IS THE BEST DUE TO THE FACT THAT SCRATCHES CAN BE BUFFED OUT, IF YOU SCRATCH IT, ANY LOCAL JEWELER SHOULD BE ABLE TO BUFF OUT IN A FEW MINUTES.

45) TWO OR MORE CROWNS: THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. WHEN YOU HAVE TWO OR MORE CROWNS, AND ONE IS FOR TURNING AN INNER CHAPTER RING, SUCH AS RADO CAPTAIN HOOK, VELESSA AND OTHERS, NEVER ATTEMPT TO PULL THAT CROWN OUT.

46  IF YOU ENCOUNTER A PROBLEM, PLEASE EMAIL OR CALL 470 209 5277 BEFORE DOING ANYTHING.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU WEAR WIND OR SET THE DATE ON YOUR NEWLY RESTORED VINTAGE TIME PIECE
CARING FOR YOUR VINTAGE WATCH

1) SETTING DAY OR DATE:
"QUICK SET": ALLOWS THE PULLING OR PUSHING OF CROWN TO CHANGE DAY AND/OR DATE, SOME ALLOW ONE CLICK OUT [FIRST POSITION]  AND TURN CROWN TO SET.]CLOCK WISE AND COUNTER CLOCKWISE.] UNLESS STATED IN OUR OFFER THE TIME PIECE IS NOT QUICK SET.

MANUAL SET USUALLY MEANS  PULLING CROWN TO SET POSITION AND TURNING CROWN REVERSE /ANTI CLOCKWISE YO "9" POSITION THEN CLOCK WISE JUST PAST 12 O CLOCK THEN BACK TOP 9 AND REPEAT. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE TURNED 24 HRS.

MANUAL SET 2: SET BY TURNING CLOCKWISE FROM 20 (8) TO 24 (12) HOUR. YOU TURN THE HANDS CLOCKWISE UNTIL DATE CHANGES, THEN GO BACK TO 20 HOUR (8) AND THEN CLOCKWISE TO 24 HOUR (12). YOU REPEAT THIS UNTIL DATE IS APPROPRIATE.

2) NEVER WIND YOUR WATCH TO MAXIMUM SPRING TENSION:
By twisting the watches crown with the thumb and forefinger in a clockwise fashion.you wind your watches mainspring.  The crown will spin both directions IN SET MODE yet will only wind one direction IN WIND MODE. NEVER wind a vintage watch to its maximum position. Rather, when you receive your manual wind watch, gently wind the CROWN back and forth between thumb and forefinger maybe TEN TIMES.  Then WEAR IT.- As you do this you will know how much to wind it to suit your needs. IF YOU DESIRE TO WIND TO MAX, BEGIN SLOWLY TILL YOU FEEL RESISTANCE.

BUT,  You want TO LEARN YOUR WATCH. My experience has taught me that if you wind it and wear it and get used to occasionally winding it during the day, the watch will operate for a long time before servicing is required again.

3) PULLING CROWN
PLEASE PULL CROWNS GENTLY WHEN SETTING TIME/DATE. Do NOT PULL IT OUT! Grasp Crown Between THUMB AND FOREFINGER NAILS and LEVER IT OUT IN ONE MOTION..

4 ) TURNING WHEELS IN ONE DIRECTION
WHEN EVER POSSIBLE SET TIME IN CLOCK-WISE MOTION ONLY. . TRY NOT TO SET VINTAGE WATCHES COUNTER (REVERSE) CLOCKWISE UNLESS IT IS FOR SETTING DATE .OR MINOR CHANGES

5) AUTOMATIC WINDING
FULL AUTOMATICS MUST BE MOVED UP AND DOWN COUNTING AT LEAST 30 TIMES PER DOUBLE MOVEMENT BEFORE WEARING.
DO NOT SWING, OR FAST START A BUMPER AUTOMATIC. REMEMBER THESE ALSO WIND ONLY ONE DIRECTION. WIND THESE
WHEN IN DOUBT WIND, WHEN EVER POSSIBLE WIND.,  ONLY THE SEIKO REQUIRES PHYSICAL MOTION TO BEGIN RUNNING.

6) STORING WATCH
PLACE WATCH WITH FACE UP IF POSSIBLE WHEN STORING OR NOT WEARING. NEVER PLACE YOUR WATCH ON ITS SIDE.NOR LEAVE IN A CAR

7) WATER RESISTANCE
DO NOT SWIM OR TAKE SHOWER WITH YOUR WATCH ON UNLESS IT HAS A SCREW DOWN CROWN AND HAS BEEN APPROVED FOR WATER USE BY GSW. MANY DIVE WATCHES HAVE NON-SCREW DOWN CROWNS. REPLACING SEALS DOES NOT NECESSARILY MAKE UP FOR CASE AND STEM TUBE WEAR. NOT ALL STEM TUBES ARE AVAILABLE FOR VINTAGE WATCHES.. UNLESS STATED FOR USE IN WATER DO NOT USE IN WATER

8) YOUR CAR
DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VINTAGE TIME PIECE IN A VEHICLE-- EXTREME TEMPERATURES CAN    HARM THE WATCH.

9) COSMETICS:
DO NOT USE CHEMICALS, CLEANERS or JEWELRY BUFFING CLOTHS. USE A DAMP SOFT COTTON CLOTH to clean your vintage watch.  Paying extra attention to cleaning the underside case back also.

10) DO NOT WEAR YOUR VINTAGE TIME PIECE while working with tools such as hammers or vibrating tools. KEEP YOUR WATCH away from magnetic devises and fields, even if it states ANTIMAGNETIC.

11) CRYSTAL CARE:
MINERAL GLASS :: cannot be buffed out. can scratch, the most toughest of all crystals .
SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL: cannot be buffed out. is clearer than any other crystal, but shatters easy,
HARDLEX/COATED : cannot be buffed out. can scratch, scratches less than straight mineral glass crystals .

PLASTIC: though this is the least appreciated crystal, it is the best due to the fact that SCRATCHES CAN BE BUFFED OUT, If you scratch it, any local jeweler should be able to buff out in a few minutes.

12) TWO OR MORE CROWNS:
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. WHEN YOU HAVE TWO OR MORE CROWNS, AND ONE IS FOR TURNING AN INNER CHAPTER RING, OR OTHER SPECIAL FEATURE , SUCH AS RADO CAPTAIN HOOK, VELESSA AND OTHERS, NEVER ATTEMPT TO PULL THAT CROWN OUT..
