AFTER TEARING DOWN THE WATCH AGAIN WE SET OUT TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE
PROBLEM
WE SET UP A COLLECTION DISH FOR PARTS
WE REALIZED THAT THE NEW MAIN SPRING WAS
BINDING IN THE BARREL THE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE ARE NO MAIN SPRINGS TO BE HAD THAT IS
–MAIN SPRINGS FOR TRENCH WATCHES MOST TRENCH WATCHES REQUIRE ADAPTED CUSTOM MAIN SPRINGS
YOU HAVE TO FIND ONE CLOSE AND CUSTOMIZE IT
THE PROBLEM WITH THIS TRENCH WATCH BARREL
EXPANDING WAS DUE TO THE NEW MAIN SPRING. THE SPRING WE SELECTED WORKED PERFECTLY BUT WAS
SIMPLY TO STRONG WHICH RESULTED IN A BULGE DEVELOPING FROM AN EXISTING MICROSCOPIC FLAW IN
THE BARREL. PRETTY SIMPLE. ONCE IT EXPANDED JUST A SMALL AMOUNT THE GEAR/TINES ABOVE
PUSHED AGAINST THE CENTER WHEEL AND IT STOPPED THE WATCH.
IT TOOK SEVERAL WEEKS & 165.00 TO FIND A
NON-RUNNING TRENCH WITH SAME MOVEMENT FOR THE CORRECT BARREL AS WELL AS PARTS FOR THE
FUTURE IN CASE ADDITIONAL WARRANTY WORK IS EVER REQUIRED. THE PARTS WILL BE STORED IN THE
CASE IF OUR PATRON REQUIRES WARRANTY WORK IN THE FUTURE WE WILL HAVE THEM. BUT WE WILL
REBUILD THE PARTS WATCH WITH DAMAGED BARREL –THAT WE REPAIRED — AND STORE IT COMPLETELY
ASSEMBLED. NOTE: THE REPAIR WOULD NOT HOLD UP OVER TIME. SO IT IS ONLY TO STORE THE
MOVEMENT
I DECIDED TO BEGIN BY DISASSEMBLING BOTH WATCHES PARTS. PARTS. PARTS

BARREL IN THE RIGHT ORIGINAL BARREL PLACED IN THE ONE AT LEFT WE PLACED THE NEW SPRING IN
RIGHT AND A TESTING SPRING IN THE LEFT
BOTH ARE KEEPING TIME BUT IT WILL BE TWO WEEKS BEFORE I RECEIVE CORRECT
SPRINGS CUSTOMIZE THEM THEN TEST THEM IN FACT OUR COST IS ANOTHER ADDITIONAL 100.00. THESE
SPRINGS ARE 13.00 EACH. WE HAVE TO INVEST IN SEVERAL DIFFERENT MAINS AND THEN TEST THEM TO
GET THE RIGHT ONE OF COURSE ALL OF THESE COSTS AND LABOR ARE AT NO CHARGE TO OUR PATRON
